What's my best souvenir?
Maldives Traveller's goodies bag
The most common thing that I would buy every time I travelled to a city is postcard and stamp to send my postcard, and I didn’t miss the chance to get a postcard on our Maldives trip, I bought a postcard of our resort’s photo, and I think postcard in resort is cheaper than if you get it at Male Airport. Because I got it at 75 cents from my resort but I saw it was 10 for USD10 at airport. I think I figured out the reason after back, this is because we were expected to swip our credit card for all payment before our departure, therefore it is easy for resort to convert for smaller changes (but if you decided to pay by cash, then you might expect to lose some because they will round the amount to nearest higher amount). However, shopping at other place they might need to avoid for small changes, so they only charge on rounded amount. Anyways, this is what I am guessing.
However, I have been back from Maldives about a week plus, but I am still waiting for the postcard to deliver to my house, yes… still waiting and hopefully I can get it soon.
The second item that I would buy on every trip that I made since four years ago is a magnet that has some special view or significant items in the city. And, I got a nice beautiful magnet with sea of Maldives and there are a lot of sea creatures and corals inside. And, the magnet is on my fridge with all my magnet collections, this will be a good souvenir that I can remember Maldives all the while.
Also, I would buy a third item if I really like the place a lot and I bought the third this time, which is a T-shirt with Maldives and designed by Maldivian. And, I bought all three items from my Island Resort, I don’t have complain on postcard and magnet, however I personally think T-shirt was a bit limited choice in size and colour. When I searched for a T-shirt, I actually was interested on the one with different of tail description, for manta, shark, tuna, dolphin and diver, but I wished to get a S Size and blue colour T-shirt which was not hanging in store. So, I asked the storekeeper about the size and colour that I wanted, but they said all they have was at the place that they hanged.
Finally, the thing that I could do was to narrow down my choice to an S size and pink colour with my desired design. Therefore, I think they might need to improve their inventory variety. Anyways, I only wanted to have something for my further memory, so I still would buy one.
However, I got some extra souvenirs this time on my Maldives trip on my last night stay, which was a surprise and I like it a lot. What was that? Yes, I need to thank to Maldives traveler for sending me the goodies bag as I registered to their website and join the “Who’s going where” program. At first, I actually didn’t put hope on this as they changed policy on 17th of September, so I thought I won’t have chance to get one. But, I received the goodies bag on my last night, it was really a surprise. I didn’t know why I still got it that time, but I know it after back, it is because I registered to program before 17th of September, lucky me.
When I registered, I didn’t put much hope on the goodies bag because it is just a free item, I guessed it might be some vouchers with a lot of terms and condition which I might never used it, or some free tourism leaflet to introduce us Maldives. But, I was wrong because it is really something good, my goodies bag comes with 5 beautiful postcard, 5 magnets, 2 calendars for 2013 (it really not an old calendar), a notepad, a card introduces fish in ocean and a full Maldives map with all resort listed in it, I think they cost about USD50 if we need to buy in Maldives. Honestly, I really like all gifts from Maldives Traveller a lot, especially the map and calendar (so that I still can see Maldives in 2013 ^_^). After all, a big thanks to Maldives Traveller.
Along with goodies, there was a note recommended us to leave some (good or bad) review for our trip, so I decided to leave as much as review that I can write for this website in return :)
